In the first of our Vantige Point series, we talk to our HR superstar and people champion Alisha Cohen who’s passion for encouraging diversity and continuous drive to make Vanti a better place to work makes her an integral part of developing our culture.
Hi I’m Alisha, one half of Vanti’s dedicated People Department and I’ve loved being a part of the Vanti family ever since I joined the business in 2020.
No two days are ever the same which keeps me on my toes! My remit covers a range of activities including recruitment, employee engagement, change management and organisational development, people strategy, developing and implementing company policies and being a helping hand and someone to talk to about any problems our team has.
As soon as I joined I could sense that a positive culture had formed amongst the team but our goal was to create a forward thinking HR department which fostered the culture we had already developed, provided modern and varied working benefits for our team and made the general environment a place where people could bring their full selves to work without fear of discrimination or ridicule.
As a woman working in the technology and property industries, I want to encourage more and more women and people from different cultural backgrounds to consider what we do at Vanti as a career choice. We know that we still have work to do as an industry and as a business to become truly diverse and we want to continue to give fair opportunities to everybody regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity or age.
To do this we have worked with external companies such as Digital Innovators and Learn By Design to talk with young people and to give them a flavour of what we do and are continuously looking at new ways to become more diverse and inclusive.
Outside of my work life, I have a seven year old son and I feel so lucky to work for a company which offers agile working and this has only been exaggerated by Covid-19. To be given the trust to do your job from home and with flexible hours to work around your personal life when needed is a huge weight off our shoulders, and we’ve since installed new benefits to give our staff even more flexibility.
One of the highlights of my role so far has been introducing YuLife for our team. YuLife gives us the ability to offer so many benefits to our staff, from mental health support services to 24/7 GP appointments and encourages a healthy lifestyle by offering rewards for exercising every day. The team is super competitive and we’re always looking at the leader boards to see who is doing the most steps! I’ve been able to treat myself to some retail therapy too after doing enough to get my ASOS vouchers as well! It’s been really fun and a great way of giving back to our team.
I absolutely love working in HR and was very proud towards the end of last year when I got to celebrate my graduation at Solihull College after I completed my Level 7 CIPD in HR, which was a long term goal for me.
The qualification will hopefully help me continue my development, and I couldn’t think of a better place to continue to learn. The people are what make working here so special and I can’t wait to see Team Vanti continue to grow!
